Default number of previous owners

Hi looking to buy an s2k and I have my eyes on a couple I'm going to try and see next week ...... it's bit of a trip (130 miles approx) just to view and testdrive.

Both 06 plate in moonrock and both approx 30k on clock.

Car 1 has brown leather (£12k)
Car 2 red/black (my preference, (£12.5k)

Car 1 is as far as I'm aware 1 owner
Car 2 is 3 owners (Honda 1st - 6 months, 2nd 18 months and 3rd 2 years).
Dealer said HUK car although I suspect a demo.

Both have FSH.

I don't feel totally comfortable with 3 owners in 4 yrs BUT prefer the colour combo of red/black (not that Ive seen the brown leather in the flesh).

I appreciate these types of cars often have numerous owners but I have reservations.

Any opinions on number of owners anyone? or even the fact I'm told it's a HUK car.

cheers

Mine is an 06 moonrock and has 4 currently so I wouldn't worry.

In my case though, Honda registered it as a demo car, then they guy I bought it from registered it to him, then transferred it to his wife, then I bought it.

It's a 4-5 year old car, so 3 owners isn't too bad imo, esp if you plan on keeping it a while.

I'd be the 4th owner. I think condition is the main issue ...... dealer says it's had a small dent repair (no paint). I suspect most cars for resale will have had some minor dent removal at some stage so nothing too bad.

I'm thinking an inspection inc hpi but covering mechanics and bodywork would probably give me some peace of mind, would cost me approx £150.

most sports cars can have lots of owners in a short space of time,

i went to view a 3 year old lotus elise with 4 owners, first being a lotus dealer,

plenty of people buying before summer enjoying it then moving on so i wouldnt worry as long as service history is good and car feels great to drive.

We had an ex Honda UK staff car.

RO06 MOV

So I would expect the Honda registered car to be an RO series too (Herts)

Nothing wrong with it - was in perfect order.

It's 'RJ' ... I assume a dealer registered demo then.

I agree that condition is very important but I'd ask myself why the car has changed hands so many times. I always look for a low mileage example with the minimum of owners if I can. If it's a 1 owner vehicle then you can obviously see the owner. Need also to think about re-sale. If trading in then you'll only get trade price but if selling privately it's always better if there are less owners (depends of course on how long you intend to keep the car).

My 200SX had about 9 owners before me and was 9 years old when I bought it, so that was an average of 1 owner a year. It did ring alarm bells at first but the car was decent enough.

2 years later and I never had a single problem with it. And in the last 2 years its swapped hands twice more to overseas buyers! incidently I'm trying to hunt it down to buy it back lol

"Sports" cars tend to move hands pretty quickly as people buy them to enjoy and then need to sell due to the impracticality of them.

If it was soemthing like a Mondeo/3 series I'd be quite worried, but most 'rules of thumb' don't really hold for more specialised cars.

It will have been in warranty most of its short life so I doubt it will have changed hands because of some costly "issue" as Honda will have just sorted it.

Regardless, check it out properly to see if there is an "issue", if not then don't worry about the # of owners.

Also, as stated in previous posts, many sports cars are bought for "a summer/year".

All that said, that's not reason to not make the proper checks in case there is a reason why it keeps changing hands but 1 per year is nothing strange.

Gp20+ insurance
2 seats
Image
Winter useage rates

I imagine these are some reasons they change hands frequently.
