Number Plates Legal Question
#11
Have I been lucky or what?
Since having my plate S200 0AE (S2000 AE) I have been followed, behind and parked next to more plod cars than the rest of my life. In fact in Carslile I was behind one and two more behind me - nothing said except for admiring glances to the car which was hood down on a hot sunny day.
No problems locally where the car is seen by plod every day!
I do believe that plod is not too concerned about plates as the mis-spacing often makes them easier to remember!

I never had any trouble with my plate S2000 GT (S200 GGT)
Not only did I respace it, but the first "G" was manipulated out of all recognition to represent an "0"
I would either have a cop in front or behind my car at least once a day, as I live close to the police station.
I never got pulled for the plate at all. I got endless warnings though for having a front plate which was too small!! I basically removed the whole front plate holder and substituted it for something that resembled a motorcycle plate.
Id had to go to the test centre and prove I had changed it - take the doc to the copshop and get it signed off. (Then walk back to the car and put my dodgy plates back on again - ready for the next time!).
In answer to your question - I never heard that you could get points. An on the spot fine - yes - and a fine up to

I had S200 OHJ on my previous S, spaced to S2000 HJ (currently on retention). Never got stopped, theres so many "wrongly" spaced plates around here plod does not seem to bother. I did however keep a set of correctly spaced plates in the boot that Priory Honda made for me when I took the S in for its MOT and also to coin the line "I just got some legal plates made officer" if I ever got pulled.

Never been stopped for my plates - though I do keep the regualr set in the boot just in case.
I reckon that in the majority of cases, you'd be unlucky to get pulled just for mis-spaced plates but if you were pulled for something else, they'd probably add it to the list.
Just my 2p.

what about incorrectly mounted plates?
i've removed the black plastic plate holder from the front of the car as it makes the front look cleaner.
I've heard rumour this is illegal
