Now me bleedin' alternator's dropped off!
It was the PAS pump with the MX-5. I obviously need more cylinders, since the vibration of constant max RPM shakes fours to bits.
It started with me wondering why I got belt squeal on startup. The automatic tensioner was beyond its limits. That the alternator looked wonky revealed why.
Clearly, the botton bolt (it always is!) had buggered off, so the upper was over-stressed & has sheared.
Anyway, after much removal of things and application of Plus Gas, I managed to crack the tension & extract the stud:
BTW does anyone know the part no. for the air cleaner elephant?
It's just that I was charged for one 3 weeks ago. I just wanna make sure it was the pollen one & not the above one, otherwise there will be a farking eruption.

Cheers, Trypod,
I was charged for 17220PCX003 Element comp, air.
It's so close to the Civic's air filter number & so far from the pollen filter number, expect a site for redevelopment to become available in the middle of Letchworth from next week.

Part number for the air filter is 17220-PCX-003
Trypod has quoted the part number for the air tube connecting the air filter to the intake manifold.
Looks like you have been charged for a new air filter and ther's no way your filter would have got that dirty within 3 weeks!!!!
Check part numbers here:

so letchworth charged u for a new air filter? Brilliant. I think I'd want to sit and watch the next "service" they do, if you ever bother going back there.
Unbelievable.
What is it with main dealers, you just have to watch them like a hawk.

Cool!
Did yours squeak under torque when you put your foot down Nick? Mine does a bit and think the tensioner needs renewing. It got a bit of abuse during the S/C install

If your Strut brace stops the air box lid being removed thats why they wont of replaced it, i watch mine when its getting serviced and the monkey was reluctant to remove it as it 'could effect the suspension'

Ade, that's a non-sequitur; no new elephant - no charge!
The airbox lid comes off if you shove the brace a bit.
Mark, I thought it was the tensioner pulley wheel; it used to squeak a few years ago until I WD40'd it. But it was only squealing when the engine caught off the button and you could see the drive wheel slip. A tribute to Honda's design that the alternator stayed on just enough for the tensioner to take up the slack, I guess.
Amuse, thanks, that's what I was charged for. They've had a staff change round there and, I dunno, just a feeling I had about the last couple of visits. Like something intangible's changed. Not just the decor.
Mugen, cheers! That's where I like to go & play with oily things. I find it quite therapeutic.
