I also had no idea how much top speed you lose from having the roof down, shaves a good 25mph off the top end on that back straight bit.

My record is 138mph before Sweden corner (whatever that is in German), with the roof down. I find it very hard to believe I could be reaching 163mph just by having the roof up.

I think he means with the roof down, at the same point, he was doing 25mph slower.

Meaning the acceleration at top isn't as fast with the roof down.

Sounds like he was taking the preceeding corner much slower when he had the roof down. I've pretty much always had the roof down when on track: it doesn't make much difference.

Yea, no way the car would do 163 anywhere obviously. I'm not doing an in depth scientific analysis here Just saying, you get a hell of alot extra drag with the roof down. It was most noticable on that up-hill back straight bit before karussell. Sort of reaching it's limit through the top of 4th gear down, easily into 5th with it up.

I can't comment on the straight your reffering to at the ring, but I do agree.

I do think it does make a difference, Or if feels like it does

I must say I have noticed a huuuuge difference.

WHereby I was maxing out at 140 with roof down, I could hit 155 with the roof up.

All speedo numbers by the way

Hi all, Interestingly having done a "few" trips to the ring over the years I actually went out on a guided tour with RSR (aka the 75 experience) at the end of June this year after the touristenfahrten stopped on the saturday evening, we were out until just after 9pm. 4 experienced racers took us round and were adamant that the fastest place on the circuit (for a tourist lap) is the bottom of Fuchsrohre, the wiggly downhill bit after Aremberg, (the corner after schwedenkreuz) the 3.0 Alfa 75s (190ps) can apparently do a genuine 150 through there......

Must say trying out some of the tips on Sunday was quite enlightening

Must get that place out of my blood

I had the same experience in Spa-Francorchamps at the end of the long straight, Kemmel.

I had about 10 km/h less in endspeed then with the top up, never tried with the hardtop, maybe this gives even better aerodynamics.

At the ring it shouldn't matter much, as besides the already mentioned Swedenkreuz and Fuchsroehre, as well as on the long straights you don't have many kilometers where you speed is going into regions where the drag is becoming a deciding factor.

BTW, if you wanna learn the driving line of the ring in a S2k, here's a video from a pro driver with 24hours of Nurburgring experience in my supercharged S2000:

If your balls are big enough.

I'm sure I've always backed off a little down there.
