Non OEM brake pads - reuse shims?

Copper grease dries out and is pretty much useless after a while

You're better off using a waterproof marine grease

Don't think the marine grease likes the potentially high temperatures though.
The Ceratec suppose to be good up to 1000°C.

Another vote for the Ceratec greased. Does a great job to stop noise and provide lubrication for the pads so that they move properly in the carriers. I normally swap the shims over because they tend to wear a groove on the piston side.

Don't use copper grease. Any spray / splash can get in to the abs sensors, giving a false reading.
Get ceratec - it's cheap, lasts and has no metal base products for conductivity
