No vtec

The MAP mod is fairly pointless IMO. I think they realised the MAP was crap and cluched at straws tbh.
But it sounds like it's not conclusive if the car is engaging VTEC or not?
If it is MAP sensor related, 48k is still a lot of miles and it could be that which is causing it.
What I would do to prove it, is get the car on a dyno. But people don't tend to like listening to that one!
I would also try an ECU reset, then if that doesn't work i'd swap MAP sensors with someone else. It's a 2 minute job but be careful of rounding off the screws.
As someone else said, if you have a PRM on there you should hear the change.
Can you remember it being any different?

My mileage is 58k
The car was driven today by another forum member and it seems to be ok
The conclusion is that I need to go to the local builders merchant and buy a brick to put in my right shoe
Saying that I do tend to be a smooth driver so don't drive the car as hard as I should and with the added immunity to the vtec
Panic over
For now

Most noticable in low gears, a hard drag in second the note changes at about 6k revs.
On my 06 its obvious even with a stock exhaust and intake.
If it wasnt engaging you would really struggle to get to the redline in higher gears.
Hyper made a top point, the valve clearances are IMPORTANT on this engine.
Worth getting them sorted out.
An, given the recent camchain failures, whilst in there make sure the chain isnt stretched to hell and about to snap shortly.
Get the TCT fixed asap as you'll be wearing the chain more than is normal.
Steve.

Valve clearances wouldn't stop it from VTECing though. And if they were that bad that you had significant power loss, you would also expect to see some bad misfires.

If VTEC was not engaging i.e. the second camshaft was not being used i doubt very much if the car would make 9K rpm (it would probabaly be very reluctant to rev beyond about 7K)...
So, if you're getting to 9K revs cleanly, then VTEC is engaging...

I tend to agree. I reckon it's fine.
I think the issue is, that budgie's S is very rapid. It's def the quickest S i've been in and makes nice noises.
Getting in a standard car after is going to seem a little less lively
