Default no cambelt? cam chain?

Was wondering when my cambelt would be due for changing, have done a search and found in fact its a chain not a belt (good news!)

So does this chain not need changing, and if it does when?

Chains do not need replacing.

Unless they go wrong. Mine needed replacing at 72k, together with cam chain tensioner. under warranty

what were the mechanical symptoms that initiated that warranty claim? What happens when they start to go wrong?

They will start to get noisy. You can't miss it when it does start to let go. Do a search as many owners have posted sound files.

A rattle, only when warm, on startup.

Jorge listened to it and knew what it was right away

Just make sure you let the dealer know this otherwise they will try and charge you way over the top for the service.

Wrong. They last a lot longer than a cambelt, but they do wear out. Already replaced some on F20C's... it's true that the tensioner is the more common failure, but the chains do wear too.
