From my checking the Tien, HKS, Spoon et al are not gas monotubes the other thing to look out for is the spring rates which on these are all very high (skateboard style )

I'm sure Craig and StevenM found the same.

I'm with the "you get what you pay for" but don't pay silly money skool

The Nitrons build quality and materials are fantastics, plus they are designed, machines and constructed in the UK so any issues you can go straight to the door of the guys who know how to sort. I asked about their maintenance as many other need stripping and rebuilding at regular intervals. These need a clean down and spray with WD40 even I can do that!

Rahula the AST numbers for spring ratings don't make sense. I understand why they claim a helper sring is used buy not sure it is as simple as they claim. two spring two different rates both taking the same laod at the same time plus why does no one else do it

They are in kg whereas the others quote in pounds. They are using a 2 spring design instead of one progressive spring but they can also install a straight spring if needed instead.

Many suspension companies use helper springs in some applications including KW.
There are countless companies making stuff that fits the S2000,
Spoon
Mugen
Buddyclub
etc are not really experts in the field, they just retail performance products to go with the rest of their range, ideally I would stay with a company that is a specialist in the field of damping. Put simply it is just a case of how much money you can justify spending, they will all offer some improvement over standard.
Koni
Bilstein
Leda
AST
KW
Nitron
Aragosta
Tein
and of course the champion of champions
Ohlins
who will sell you a discounted set of Euro spec S2000 dampers (the Jap/US specs are different) for around

If the helper springs are flat in section, then they're purely to stop the springs dislocating from the dampers when the car is jacked up. If you put the car at normal ride height, the helper springs compress fully flat so take no part in the proceedings. Not to be confused with progressive springs, those vary the spacing between coils which varies the spring rate as the spring compresses.

Last time I checked there were at least 50+ options for different dampers etc. Rather than asking the question which is the 'best', you want to ask the question what you want from any change - then there's more chance that people can really post their experiences with what they've done to see if that matches what you're after. It's very hard to compare damper setups on paper, rather than driving/experiencing them on the car.

I don't think it'd help anyone anymore if I went into how I compare some of the different options. Rather the situation is quite mature now. There are enough owners out there with some options to compare, that the best thing to do is start there. If what they have isn't what you're after, at least you'll know what isn't right for you.

Damn I was referring to amuse before not spoon. The amuse setup, the bmi rotary reborn dvd states that Dampers are Amuse Hi-tech, springs f-12kg & r-14kg. Even with the lowered suspension the car had no problems executing the bumps on the touge the narrator says. If nitrons are as good as this I think I may be up for them in a few months.

Brian

Once again thanks for the input and I have been reading the original thread that Craig had started in 03! I am on page 3 of that now....have you heard of AST before and if you have has it been good, bad or mixed experiences?

Thanks.

The link to the Tein GB you had in your other thread has got me thinking..always a dangerous thing with me. I can now see why it took you so long to make the purchase!

Do you know if Tein sell them with lower rated springs? Also it seems the Flex system is not a monotube and I have now bought into the idea so will check if Tein do the EDFC with one. I think I would like to have the EDFC as it would make life so much simpler and little flashing lights inside the cockpit will also help.
