Newboy
Hi, just registered as I am looking at buying a decent used S2000 within the next few weeks. I have read a lot about them and believe this might be the car I am looking for and, believe me I have gone through a bunch in the last year or so. My immediate questions are; (a)how do you tell an import from a UK model - is there a way of spotting them visually or is it only a paperwork thing (b) why is it worth buying a UK model when all the reports I have read indicate that that imports are usually better spec'd, therefore you get better value for money - is it a spares thing?
I am sure you have all seen these enquiries before but being a newboy.... I would appreciate some info

(a) The only physical difference is that EU imports don't come with an alarm, and so most of them will have aftermarket alarms fitted. Other than that, they are identical.
(b) Why buy UK? Why indeed, if you can get a decent price on an EU import. The only real difference is that you will stand to make less when you come to resell an import. For all intents and purposes, it is identical to a UK car - they all roll off the same production line in Japan.....
Check out the Tech FAQ at the top of the board - it answers a lot of the usual noob questions

a) check the supplying dealer paperwork. personally, I wouldn't buy a car as new as the S that didn't have all of the original documentation, sales receipt etc. if it's not there - suspect they are hiding something and look for another car. there are so many cherished examples you would be mad to buy something that isn't 100%
b) no extra spec for imports - this sounds like someone trying to talk up the price of an import when compared to an equivalent 'UK' car, it should be cheaper. the differential is perceived unfair but factual and the gap narrows as the cars age. the spec is pretty much identical.
there are lots of old threads on imports - try a search

a) the service book (in English or foreign) will be stamped with the dealer that did the pdi (pre delivery inspection) i.e. a U.k. or E.U. dealer.
If the owner of an E.U. car has got a U.K. dealer to retrospectivly stamp a U.K. service book then a call to Honda U.K. with the VIN will determine the origin of the vehicle.
b) spec is same except for alarm thing.
