The only difference I can see is that the F1's are slightly smaller on actual "tread width" for the same section width but Id put this down to the fact that the S02's are a squarer tyre and the F1's shoulders run off.

I did find an interesting Tire rack review more so for the T1R's than the F1's

at 311 a set I'm gonna stick some F1's on over winter, and if they aren't up to so2 scratch then put them (so2) on after winter again! GSD3F1 get extremely good write ups and feedback in pretty much all places u look. Ultimately I don't expect them to be quite as good/stiff/responsive as so2 for dry sunny hot days, but over winter I expect them to be better when braking/handling on wet surfaces. Not that I drive stupidly on wet roads, no one should, but in an emergency situ you want all the grip u can get.

According to Goodyear in the UK the 225 x 50 x 16 tyre is within spec of the S02 on OD and section width. I could be wrong but my understanding was the section width that was the issue on other 225 sized tyres which for most they are smaller than the so2 rears.

the isse with the s02's is that the rain channels are so much smaller than the goodyears, so even with the same actual width tyres, you get less rubber on the road with the goodyears than with s02's.

That maybe but as Bluenomad says its worth trying them out , cant be worse than the T1r's.

I've got some on order as well, I'm hoping its a good choice for the winter.

Despite there not being quite as much rubber contact as the so2 due to bigger rain channels on the gsd3, I think/hope the gsd3 benefits for wet/slimy roads will outweigh the negs. I'll post up my thoughts in due course.

It's got nothing to do with the physical width of the tyre, and everything to do with the amount of rubber on the road with the rear S02s. This is to do with the smaller rain channels and not the square shoulder of the S02 tyre

You can fit 225s on the rear if you want but be aware that you will have less dry weather grip at the back.
