Repalce all with oem so2s. s03 pp have softer sidewalls and just do nothing for the s2ks handling. Get the new tyres on then have the alignment chcked by Chris at centre gravity and you will be amazed at how much better it feels.

It's like that yes, turns the car right as you let off.

The first thing I did though was check and set the tyre pressures to 34psi. It's still there, slight though but noticeable.

I'm a bit confused by the above now though. I want to get some new rear tyres so lets say i go for T1r's or eagle f1's

225/5016 or 245/45/16 ?

After looking at my rears today, then weren't nexxan lol but I've forgotten what they are again (think it began with an H)

Thing is even at 225 they look too wide for the rims anyway, can't imagine what 245's must look like on the std rims?
personally, i'd buy new s02 rears and leave the s03's on the front for now. I thought the s02's on the rear were great tyres in the dry and on the track, and whilst i don't drive like a nutcase in the wet, neither did i drive like a granny and i never had any 'moments' in the wet.

there's a lot of scaremongering about the oem fit s02's which i personally think is unjustified.

I would have to agree with this. I've not had any 'moments since I put S02's on my car. I had p6000's on the car when I bought it and it was a lot of fun drifting everywhere learning the car and a little bit scary in the wet. The S02's are very hard to shift even when cold.

However they are still quite new and I understand they go off when well worn.

I agree they are not Bad tyres, but then they are as old a design as the car and a lot has happened in the world of tyres since the S2k was launched.

The choice is very simple stick with the OE fitment or fit something else so long as its not out of spec

I'll be looking for a new set of boots in a month, or thereabouts. I was just going to get S-02s fitted again. However, as you say, they are an ageing design, and do go off quickly.

If the Goodyear's could now be an option to fit 16" rims, I'd be interested to see how you get on with them. Keep us posted.

As far as I am aware Goodyear F1s have not been available in the correct sizes for 16" wheels for a couple of years now.

StevenM,

I know you can't get the 245/45/R16 Goodyear tyres anymore.

However, what Lickermat is saying based on his research is, that the Goodyear F1 GSD3, available as 225/50/R16 92Y is supposedly compatible with the spec for the S-02 in the stock size.

True, but you will have a lot less rubber on the road than if you had the OEM S02s. This won't be a problem during the winter but you could find that they don't give as much grip on dry roads.

The F1 GSD3 is a very good tyre, much better than the GSD2 in the dry so you would probably be OK with them.

According to Goodyear in the UK the 225 x 50 x 16 tyre is within spec of the S02 on OD and section width. I could be wrong but my understanding was the section width that was the issue on other 225 sized tyres which for most they are smaller than the so2 rears.

If I were still on 16" wheels I would almost certainly go for the GSD3s. They have stiffer sidewalls than the GSD2s so give more feedback when cornering.
