Had a new windscreen fitted on the S this weekend, of course covered by my insurance and only needed to pay a

Normally, it's because the retainer/tensioner bolt has a left-handed thread & fitters assume it's seized!
The bolt head is designed to pull through the washer, so that the mirror falls off in a shunt.
