I ended up going for 205/50 on the front, down from 205/55 and 225/45 on the rear rather than the 225/50 so at least the overall diameter of the wheels is off by the same amount, this was with the Dunlop DZ-03g which is an excellent tyres and they were about £525 for the set.
Yeah I have decided am going to stick with the 16" I just noticed Tim s said he was running Toyo r888 with the standard 16" and his tire width was 215 & 245 which is wider. I was just wondering if you can run wider tires on standard wheels? I looked at Toyo's website and I can get 215/50ZR16 and 245/45ZR16 only thing is I intend to fit coilovers later on and although am not wanting to lower it much am not wanting the tires to rub.

As above, the Bridgestone RE002 are available nthe correct sizes and work perfectly well for the occasional track dayer.

When I had R888s I had 245/45 on the rear and 205/55 on the front. All sizes were readily available, but they are very expensive (roughly double the cost of the RE002s.)

Again thanks for the info I will just stick to the normal tire size and I will look into the RE002's

There's no problem running 245/45 on standard wheels on the rears. R888s come up at least 5mm wider than "normal" tyres and I had at least an inch between the top of the tyre and the arch. My car is lowered on coilovers and I have -2° camber at the back, so not much different to standard.

Even with 255 A048s on OEM 17" wheels at the back there's no rubbing (to my surprise) but it is closer.

R888s are readily available in OEM 16" sizes by the way without having to compromise on sidewall height.
