I currently run S-03's at the S-02 sizes. I'm pretty happy with them. Yet, I have heard about the rear S-02's not being genuine 225's, but actually have a wider measurement. I have heard that if you want to run S-03's it is better to use a 245/45/16 tyre for the rear, (still keeping it 205 at the front).

I think you'll need 245 for the rears if you are going for any tyre other than the OEM S02. The "225" S02 effectively has 245 section of rubber on it - if you go for 225 in any other tyre you may be seriously compromising rear grip levels. In a nice hot sticky summer you want as much grip as possible at the back to enjoy the car safely (unless you are zero ).

I think the tech FAQ covers this - are you sure you don't want to fit S02's ?

I'm sure there will be more experienced people along shortly, to agree or disagree!

Cheers Trimmy. Appreciate the feedback. Does it really make much difference if i use 225/50/16 S03 tyre on the rear?

I have never actually used 245's on the back, but from all the knowledge that I have gained on this site in the last 3 months or so, I believe 245's are the way to go. (Unless you run S-02's.)

S-02's have superior dry weather performance, yet S-03's are supposed to be loads better in the wet stuff! It's the reason I got them. If you look on the above web site, it gives you all the tyre perfomance ratings.

To answer your question precisely, you can use any tyre that matches the fitment for your car, which you can find in your S2000 manufaturer's handbook. You can then vary the fitment within constraints of recommendation from the individual manufacturer you are considering to fit. Do not forget that the speed rating of any tyre you choose MUST cope with Honda's stated top speed for the car, regardless of whether you ever drive it at that speed or not.
Constructions & Uses regulations only generally make exclusions in respect of a fitment that is entirely unsuitable within safety perameters.
The plethora of advice on this site, based upon S2000 user experience is well worth reading to help you decide, but there is no requirement to specifically fit the OE brand and size again and the use of 245/45 in place of 225/50 S02's is ONLY an opinion, not a statement of necessity.
