Default new tyres all round

Went down the road to Micheldever tyres to have them checked as the rears looked a bit worn...was shocked to discover I needed all 4 tyres replaced as the fronts were like slicks on the inside, now he said my tracking was out and this is why I needed the new fronts...

1. The total cost for all 4 tyres was 362.00 pounds, which I thought was
a really good price for the S0-2's, 63.00 each for the fronts and 73.00
each for the rears.

2. While I was waiting they brought in a wheel to show me where it had been
damaged.. , now I dont recall hitting any kerbs and i called my
girlfriend who said she didnt hit any. As I did not give them a good check
before they took them off I could not really accuse them of the damage,
for 50.00 they would send it off to have it repaired...I told them I would think
about it.

3. Once all the tyres were changed they did the tracking, now seeing that my
2 fronts were knacked due to the tracking being out I was really confused
when they told me the tracking was fine.... Is it going to be a case
that i will need another new set of fronts soon because they will wear out.

has anyone else had issue down at Micheldever tyres...??

Wheel damage sounds a bit dodgy

Good price for tyres though

Lots of people swap the fronts to even out tyre wear.
Front wear is normal on the front insides due to normal camber / castor settings.

Cheers, that explains alot...I didnt realise there was so much camber on the fronts and your right I should swap them over to spread the wear....cheers again.

Mine don't seem to wear excessively on the inside, but a little more. If you swap them in time can probably extend life by 3-4,000 miles depending on how you drive.

Trouble is, the tyres have worn one way so won't sit right if you swap them over - expect increased understeer.

If you're driving hard enough, you should cook both front & rear sets equally, so just change all four at once.

i had exactly the same issue of uneven tyre wear.. means your fronts will be illegal much earlier than they should be.. i think i'll swop every year from now on.

Nick is spot on! (as usual )
The other thing to be aware of is you should really go for the four wheel laser alignment which needs specialsit kit and training.
The usual kit won't do it and most place don't have the correct settings either. (voice of experience on this having had it done 3 times on 12 months)
Also on a MY00 car you may have had optimum geo applied at some time which increases the inside edge tyre wear.
Have a look in the FAQ for full details of the settings
Bet you didn't get a print of the "fine" settings Micheldever found
