Haven't had chance to get to the car park yet, but will do before I go home tonight. Only done 100 odd miles since getting the tyre fitted.

IMO the tyre should be bedded in by now then.

Was it fitted at a honda dealer? I had one done by them following a puncture (couldn't wait for someone to come and do it who would have been cheaper) and they were convinced they'd put the correct tyre on - "it says S02 on our screen" and they hadn't.

So worth a proper check

Hmm.. I would never fit a new tyre on one side, that wheel will want to spin slower for the same distance than the worn side and put pressure on the Diff.. Fit another new one mate...

3k miles is about 30% worn for me (commuter) for the rears...

Say the old wheel is 3mm worn.

New tyre circumference = 1907mm
Worn tyre circumference = 1888mm
Difference in mm = 19
Difference in % = approx 1%

Do you think the LSD will really struggle with 1% difference?

Well yeah. I dunno about the Honda manual but I know the 4 wheel drive volvo's and calibra's ALL had problems if you did this. IIRC Volvo refused to pay out on warranty claims because of this. For the sake of

Good maths Rob

Since the S02's are so affected by wear, I think I would be inclined to have 2 new rears fitted, especially if one was worn. Not sure if it does make a difference or not, it would be more for my confidence.

Drove to work on half worn S02's in snow and slush with no probs this morning, actually quite enjoyed it. I am finding that its only really bad when the snow is compact and very icey.

Take the car for a drive and try to run over some cat eyes on a slight bend, if the car feels like its jumping across the cat eyes, your alignment is out.

Ah, I did my maths based on 225/45 as I'm always getting the profile wrong but at least my error was consistent

Also used circumference rather than diameter, as the lsd limits rotation as the wheel moves along the ground, but again as a comparison in %age terms it works either way.

Any difference will produce some stress, but as it is a limited slip diff, I guess this stress is also limited.. If it were a straight through axle I guess you'd be going around in (VERY BIG) circles

3k would be 1/3rd worn at this time of year I expect, so I think 3mm is a good figure. If there were only 3mm left I'd be inclined to swap them both , but purely for reasons of grip rather than worrying about the LSD.

If it was fitted at a Honda dealer, surely they should have warned of any potential damage to the LSD

You'll get more than a 1% difference driving round a roundabout I'd have thought..

Even with equally worn tyres!

Presuming the roundabout was aprox 10m in diameter and that the track on the rear of the S2k is approx 2m then there would be a 2% difference in rotation

on a small roundabout (5m) this difference will be 4%

can't guarantee that my maths is accurate as it's been a while
