I'm not sure it is, I've largely worked out the mic positioning, so it's a matter of setting the amps (if available) and crossovers to the right places and letting it do its thing.

OK, I'll get the head unit sorted out and look out for the next minimeet for an Image session.

Presumably the relevant cables are available to make the dashboard controls work with the head unit?

Thanks,
Dave.

I use the Alpine KCE865B but I don't think they make them any more. Try Ebay for that. alternatively, there's the Autoleads option, and if you want fancy controls, look at a Modifry DCI http://www.modifry.com/products/dci/index.htm

i could be wrong, but i think the only DAB-ready HU is one of the blaupunkt HU's.

i know around 1-2years ago pioneer and alpine disnt have anything in a sensible price bracket or anything at all that fitted DAB-ready status.
pioneer did have a DAB addon unit but they had no plans to continue producing it or bring out a replacement.
almost like DAB isnt that popular!

but yes, definately worth upgrading. i dont know on the speakers on the 09 range, but on the 00my's they were dire. feck all volume. HU, amp and a pair of components later it's now hearable! couldnt hear anything over about 30-40 with roof down. now it's good upto 70+

I've heard that DAB is a waste of time in cars anyway, the signal just isn't strong enough across enough of the country, so keeps dropping out on the move.
What??!! DAB is superior to analog in that the receivers decoder allows multiway propagation to occur. Therefore multiple signals constructively add together using appropriate time delays to ensure they are decoded with the same phase, producing better quality sound with less errors and noise.

The trouble with DAB is that you either get something, or nothing. here you get scratchiness with FM, you get nothing with DAB and lots of folk find that annoying.

JVC do an optional DAB tuner, and I'm pretty sure that Sony still produces DAB units.

That's partly why it hasn't been adopted by manufacturers with the glee that other new tech has. There's a French digital system (think it's called DRM but not sure) which is supposed to be significantly better than DAB anyway, and then HD Radio needs its time in the sun, so I won't be buying into any digital radio in the car until the format wars are fought. The last thing I want is a bloody Betamax rammed in my dashboard...
It usually is, because of the shit aeriels.

Even VW owners are up in arms because they've dropped the sharks fin for a stuipd sticky indoor one on the 2010 models.

I've a Sony DAB 9950 or something (discontinued now) with a Bloomice beesting replacement, a modifry and Kenwood KFC-1666 speakers. NO reception problems.

It's all inexpensive stuff, but the sound quality is FAR better then the OEM crap.

The Civ uses a converter on its steel twig (tried a stick and it was shit) with a JVC 711 and 6-way OEM speakers. Sound is fine.

I've heard you can instal a twig behind the rear bumper (horizontally against the sine wave!) and still get decent reception, but I've not had it confirmed. Then there'd be a DAB in the 'Lude too.

Planet Rock rock!

There are only now JVC DABs now available, I understand. The UK rollout has turned into the usual gov't f uck up, so everyone's given up in the hope the v2 might be less of an abortion.

So you're not actually wrong!
