I and a few others on here have a Alpine CDE-178BT and it works very well with my 5S which I have upgraded to iOS 8.0.2. The USB connector has been routed to the secret compartment and it came with a separate USB to lightning connector charging cable. There is supposed to be a vtuner app for internet radio, but I think it has been removed from the app store, and I can't find it anywhere. It also has a patch cable to use the in-car stereo control. Pressing CH changes up a track and when you hold in CH it skips to the next folder. I load up a USB stick with MP3's. The bluetooth feature seems to stream music ok too.

This is the digital media version without the CD - Alpine iDE-178BT

Strangely, there is a vTuner app for Panasonic, but not for Alpine. Not sure if it'll work, and I'm too cheap to spend the £1.49 to find out!

Hi Kim. One last question. Does it still charge the phone when it's connected?

Yep. All modern Alpine HUs will charge the phone when connected.
