Default New geometry recommendations

Hi chaps,

Okay well the car isnt used as much these days, so I've decided to go for a 'go kart like' geometry setting since the tyre wear won't bother me as much since it simply wont be used a regular daily drive.

I'm a little out on a limb here with geometry settings TBH, since I'm not quite sure how one effects the other etc.

So my prerequisites are...

Best grip and go kart like handling.
Not effect straight line performance - not sure if geometry setting will.
I expect more tyre wear for sure but i dont want them to last 2k miles either haha.
Minimise any undesirable/dangerous effects if any???

This is a road car only.

Suggestions.

Thanks

More caster makes the steering feel heavier, that's more kart like!

Grip wise I'd change tyres then from there you can alter the settings.

Personally I find having confidence in your car is the best tweak. Do you find your car has any undesirable handling characteristics? When was your last alignment and what was put on it?

Agreed - a set of quality tyres (eg AD048) and a simple "fast road" setting will see the handling transformed like you wouldn't believe!

By go-kart like, I'd assume you mean sharp turn in with heavy steering feel, stiff suspension feel (limited damping) and snappy oversteer?

Lots of caster, low rear toe, good amount of front toe in, and a good bit of camber both ends.

To keep max speed you want less toe as possible to keep the tyres from resisting the road. This goes against having front toe mentioned above, but you can't have it all.

Dampers wound up to max and stiffer rear rates.

Not ideal IMO.

I've found the Powerflex spherical compliance bushes make the front very pointy. The Hardrace metal ones are probably even more so.

Front toe in offers up stability. Front toe out is what you want for snappy turn in. You get better Ackerman with toe out too.

Front:

Toe - 0.5º per side (1º total) toe out
Camber - neg 2.5º per side
Caster - 6.5 to 7º

Rear:

Toe - 0.25º per side (0.5º total) toe in
Camber - neg 2º per side

This is assuming your running sticky tyres and still have 215/225 front and 245 rear.

How so? Ackerman is Ackerman, no?

On a related note, drove a new Cayman S last weekend which scrubbed like hell on full lock forward and backward suggesting little Ackerman.

Hmm google time!

Also keep in mind gAyJ doesn't want settings that will munch tyres. I'd think 1/2 a degree toe out would absolutely fuxk the fronts in a very short time of street driving.

1 deg toe out will kill your front tyres in 4k miles. It wont be as stable at speed either
