I've heard that said before, and in theory you are correct.

However, i've also never heard of anyone that has managed to successfully rebuild an F20C on this forum.

I am down to two options: a engine in gumtree from a garage in Blacpool apparently see link below. Seems too good to be true so a bit suspicious Anyone local up for taking a look?

Or a recon unit from a1 jap parts in Birmingham ?.....anyone used these guys?

I'd proceed with extreme caution, when something seems too good to true it normally is. Ask for more pictures or better still go see it.

I'd have an untouched engine from a relatively low mileage car over a reconned one any day.

A third alternative is you could buy mine,It was running perfectly when I took it out of my car.Remember its an 09 with 6500 miles fullservice history. If you are nervous about it put a post up asking what percentage of 09s have had problems.

Not sure about your second alternative and it could be a different place, but a friend of mine bought a impetza engine from a place in Brum...He ended up£3000 out of pocket and still scrapped the car.

I think personally I'd go for Mr-Pitts' engine (assuming the price is OK)
I know it's an 09 but as far as I know the percentage of failures are pretty small.
Well known on the forum as well so that's a good point.
I can't imagine why someone would take a punt on a gumtree engine over this.
Just my humble opinion of course.

09 engine plus a warranty of some sort seems a sensible plan to me.

That's a 2.2L F22 engine rather than the standard 2L F20 for a start.

The Ad is dodgy, I've already emailed to him. He gave me some random address in Blackpool - offered to send it via courier if I sent the money via transfer. I would AVOID.

Google the Jap parts place in Birmingham and you should get your answer as to their reputation. I found them to be very cheap, but then you see why.

You'll find you have to spend upwards of £2k for a good engine.
