Problem I find is trying to find the good ones cos there's too much rubbish around to just go and try
word of mouth, not from 1 person but several, then ask at your local spares shop they will have a good idea who's who and which buy quality parts, then go and check them out. speak to the person who will work on your car

the biggest problem today is that some people want a cheap job and will shop around to save a tenner, but not to get a good job done
Your right about people wanting a cheap job, there is a part worn tyre shop down the road from me, Ferrari 360 in there the other day, jacked up, wheels off, seen Porsches, M3's etc in there

Had a customer yesterday ask me to put the wrong oil in his car as it was £10 cheaper, refused as he'd soon blame me if the engine failed.

Can only be word of mouth from car enthusiasts though (of which I know none round here )

Most 'normal' people have no idea and already think it's good service that they just happened to spot the brake discs needed replacing so they went and did that for them already and gave them a 10% discount on their 800 quid bill...

I know a couple of 'backstreet' garage owners and I would trust them with my life. Would I trust the dealers to the same level? Absolutely not!!

Shameless plug: Daytona Autos is THE best 'backstreet' garage I've ever known!!

I don't even use a garage, it's someone i know who does out of hours work and he's worth whatever he charges as i know he'll do a good job. Always go by recommendation when it comes to garages.
