guys I am getting very worried now about the Mini. I have trawled through at least six forums and all I keep reading is the faults with the cars and the dealers. I am not sure the problems have been ironed out either but it is making me have second thoughts. I think Nick was right but I wanted to pretend it wasn't a problem however it seems like trouble ahead. Need I some words of wisdom from those in the know please.
is this what's called a predictable corner?

feck me, you're getting predictable Rahul .........

don't want to add to your concerns, but have you checked its multiple overtaking ability?

The problem also is that reading forums will only lead me to problems with cars and not the ones which are running well. I have just done a search on Which? site and TG survey from 04 and the Mini is in the top 10 of most reliable cars. This is very confusing:

Top Gear motoring survey 2004 - Ranking by manufacturer
[05 November 2004]

1 - Lexus (92.8%)

2 - Skoda (91.1%)

3 - Mazda (89.5%)

4 - Honda (88.9%)

5 - Toyota (88.5%)

6 - Porsche (87.7%)

7 - Mini (87.4%)

8 - Subaru (87.3%)

9 - BMW (87.15)

10 - Hyundai (85.3%)

11 - MCC Smart (85.2%)

12 - Jaguar (84.8%)

13 - Audi (84.4%)

14 - Volvo (84.3%)

And the Which? review is similary good with "worth considering" advice.

Buy it and enjoy it.
Stop worrying, your a long time dead.

If someone logged on to this site today and read the first 10 threads on here they would think the S is unreliable too..........

oh yeah and that we are a bunch of tarts

If their troublesome, why are they so popular?
Ask your dealer to make sure its not a Friday build

If I wanted to be funny about the car I would say the TLC pack; The car is serviced depending on its use, i.e. motorway or city driving. The driving intervals are very few and far between. Our current car isn't due for an oil change for another 20k miles and the gearbox oil hasn't been changed in 30k miles. I have taken things into my own hands by replacing the gearbox oil and engine oil. I have also changed the air filter which I found to be disgusting. Finally the gearbox has been changed in the lifetime of this car under warranty and is difficult to on occasion to put into reverse. This I believe to be a feature of the original mini's which have been ironed out on the more recent models.

TBH if you trawl around hard enough on the S2k forum I know you will find a lot of problems with the car. At the end of the day its your choice. If you do not have a good feeling about the Mini Rahul then don't buy.

Guys thanks. I suspected as much about the problems myself and showed Gi this forum yesterday. I explained to her that I haven't had a single problem with my current car or my previous one for that matter but come to this board and read 5 pages worth of threads and you would think the S should be falling apart.

It is ture that most people don't post about how reliable thier cars are and I have taken inspiration from the MINI forum and a thread they started about exactly this. The thread is about owners who have suffered either no major problems with their cars or only minor one and which have been fixed by their dealers. We need one too I feel.

The MINI order stays.

But looking to get rid of the Mini and enter the land of VTEC courtesy of a S!
Both totally different beasts, I wouldn't recommend the S as an everyday car (I did this for 18 months) It is much higher insurance and needs to be run on high octane fuel. Depending on your driving habbits you wil get 12-35 MPG. Much rarer car though and more respected.

I Saw the title, I searched the posts, I can't believe that no one around here has gone for the good old joke...

"A new car for my wife?"
"Sounds like a fair swap to me!" Boom boom.

...

I'll get me coat.
