Default New car - mineral then fully synthetic oil ?

I pick up my car this Friday and the dealer told me that it will have normal mineral oil in it. This is superior to synthetic for the bed-in process apparently. He then recommended that I bring the car in after 4000 miles or so and they would fill it with fully synthetic (no labour charge).

I assume that this is standard practise ?

My advice is to have the oil changed at 3500 miles with the normal oil then change to Mobil 1 at 9k service. This will ensure that the engine is fully run in.

just had my 01 S2k in yesterday for its first oil change...3355 miles on it. My husband asked that they put the synthetic Mobil 1 Honda oil in, they said they can't until at least 15,000 miles....just not recommended by Honda, and they follow the rules, so as not to invalidate the warranty. Just an FYI from here in the States

My car's done 1100 miles and is half-full of oil.
Haven't topped her up ever yet.
Bought some Duckhams 10W 40 at the weekend from Halfords - haven't used it yet - is it OK to use in the S2000 ?
(I use Duckhams diesel oil for the Fiesta and it seems OK but only want the best for my new baby).

If the Duckhams isn't good for the S2000 can I use it in Amanda's 1.4 S-reg Civic ?

Bizarely for such an advanced 9k rpm engine it almost seems that the worst oil imaginable is recommended for running the car in. I used 10W-40 in my engine (Halfords "enhanced" pure mineral dawn of time itself sludge for topping up until switching to synthetic at 7500 miles). It used to go through me adding such crap into my car but thats what it needs

10W-30 mineral oil can be found in the UK, Ford sell it and I believe IanL has a source too.

I still think my car is running smoother now its on Mobil 1 (For sure I'm a lot happier knowing what is now in there!)

Tif, thanks for info. Not sure whether its pure mineral or what (I must admit I haven't taken much care choosing oil for my previous cars).
Should I only use it if its pure mineral ? (Sorry to be a pain).

Dan, when I posted one of these threads prior to collecting my car I was told to use pure mineral oil for topping up.
