Default New cameras on M4?

I have recently been sent an e-mail warning that new digital speed cameras, i.e. the type timing you between cameras and measuring average speed, have been set up on M4 between Jns 12 and 15. I don't use it much these days, but I used to live in reading and know they are keen on their cameras down there. Does anyone know if it's true, I know you guys are usually fairly knowledgeable on these types of things? My usual instinct with that type of e-mail is that it's a hoax, and that instinct's usually borne out. However, I thought in this case it might pay to know the real answer.

I will check this out with someone who might know and report back. These should be the SPECS cameras which they apparently have on the M4 in South Wales.

We have been lead to belive that this is a myth. I posted a thread on this last week myself but apparently they have turned the info boards on and wired them up for SPECS but alas no cameras yet - safe for a while !

Cheers guys. That ABD site looks like one to keep an eye on. I'm so glad I moved out of Reading!

AR51,

The ABD are potless, so please consider subscribing.

They're the only voice of reason the driver has against the bloodsuckers.

Yes, this is a confirmed myth - just check out the Thames Valley Police site:

I spoke to a friend who works for a company configuring new traffic monitoring kit. They have installed cameras up the A1, which are currently being tested. I gave them the reg no of the car I had taken up to Sunderland last week and they were able to tell me how fast I was going through their cameras

These cameras are supposedly going to be used for traffic monitoring only, but i think that that is just the beginning...

Too right.

There is some speculation as to the number plate recognition facilities of the blue Trafficmaster cameras and alternative uses for those!
