Hi Simon
I did run with the setup you suggest, until I did a trackday at Bedworth, and the rears (OEM) overheated and I destroyed the pads on the rear. Bedworth is very hard on brakes (correction: if you drive hard at Bedworth you will be very hard on brakes!) and I'd say but for that fact, which won't be an issue for you, you will find no problems with the setup you suggest, though frankly in that case why not just stick with the standard parts all round?

Anyway, since burning out the rear OEM pads I have had redstuff pads all round, with the turbogroove discs on the front and standard discs on the rear. I have done trackdays since at Mallory and Oulton, and have found this setup very good for the way I drive. It is also very good on the road, and you don't have any issues about having to warm the brakes before they work. Initial bite is better than the standard setup even when cold, I find.

The only other thing I have done (you won't need to as you don't intend to track the car) is change the brake fluid for Motul RBF600, to give a higher boiling point.

As to price, you get a discount from EBC direct if you are a member here, and their online service is very good, I have found.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. I dont think i will ever track my car to be honest but may get the ebc turbo groved discs and red stuff pads all round as i am sure that would be a good setup.

Also just out of interest the reason for me thinking about the change is that my current discs look very corroded, front and rear. Does this justify the change.

My cars an 06 with 28,000 miles so i am guessing the brake setup on it at the moment would have been on the car when new as no mention of discs or pads being changed in the history?

How long should they last? And is corrosion something to worry about?

Thanks,

Simon.

Pads are only £30 a pair from Honda, and are of very good quality. discs are expensive from Honda, which is why you've been recommended the Brakes International versions, which are more than fine, and their low cost means that they offer good value vs longevity.

Grooved discs are a waste of time for road use, other than looking bling.

it seems the brakes international discs have a good following on here! they are excellent value as well. funnily enough while doing my research i asked for a quote for a whole setup fitted from the honda dealer i bought the car from, and they wanted over £700.

They broke the quote down for me and i am sure the pads were more than £30 per pair?

Hence the reason for me thinking about the EBC setup all round.

Here is the quote:

Brake prices as requested =

Rear discs @ £71.43 x2 = £142.86 + vat

Rear pads @ £28.46 + vat

Labour fitment is 1.1 hours = £89.65 + vat

Front discs @ £114.29 x2 = £228.58 + vat

Front pads @ £38.30 + vat

Labour fitment is 1.0 hours = £81.50 + vat

Total = £715.99 inc vat fully fitted.

Also as stated is corrosion a reason to replace the discs and pads?

Depends how badly the discs are corroded, I know thats not much help but thats the truth.

If you are just using the car on the road the OEM pads and BI discs will be fine, if you have some bling urge to go for EBC so be it but they wouldnt be the manufacturer I would choose.

P.S. Ask for trade or car club discount on pads at your dealer, should be worth 10% or so off.

Had nothing but bother with EBC red pads and their disks - all i got was warped discs. That was on a 1500kg diesel car, heavier than an S2000.

Changed to generic plain disc blanks and DS2500 pads and no more warped discs. Braking performance was excellent around milton keynes where there is a lot of roundabouts with 1 mile + dual carriage way between each one. You can build up quite a bit of speed on a quiet early morning and you NEED good brakes that can handle half a dozen or more heavy braking applications in quick succession.

I managed to pick up a set of S2000 mintex pads off ebay for 50 quid delivered - that with the stock discs will do for now but as soon as funds allow i'll go back to DS2500.

Also the S2000 has solid non vented rear discs - not exactly ideal for abuse. Also quite surprised that with it being RWD and the possibility of left foot braking on the driven wheels that the rear disc set up wasn't beefed up a little.

I completely disintegrated a set of EBC red stuffs on standard discs after 1 track day.

I can send u a pick of them, the backing went green and the edges crumbled off!! they wore of in some weird ways and one ferrodo was completely detached too !!

Though they did feel quite nice for the 500miles i did before the track day. I could get the tyres to squeal under breaking (non standard suspension and tyres though)
