It's U joints or CV (constant velocity) joints. UV joints just sound like something chavettes smoke to get a fake tan!
U joints are called that because if you split the joint each side looks like a U. CV are a type of joint that maintains a constant rotating speed through a range of angular deflection.

First time i've heard that one.
More likely that they sometimes get called U joints because the 'U' is short for Universal joint which is their proper name.
