Default Name that noise....

Searched for this... and tt doesn't appear to be heat shield, clutch etc

Over the last couple of thousand miles Snowy has developed a rather annoying ticking come rattling noise from the engine bay. when cold or hot.
It sounds like a rattle as if something isn't bolted down right.

And a couple of us have had a listen and we believe that it is coming from the engine itself.

It's noticable at varied points through the rev band - but 2-2.5K is where it is easiest to hear.

Took her into Bushey today - Jorge & his brother are on holiday. The guy who looked at it advised that "he has no idea" and advised to bring it back when Jorge is around.

So.. best guess.. Tappets? Valve adjustments? TCT?

Should I drive like Miss Daisy for the next 2 weeks?

Could be a blow from the manifold amongst other things. Is the frequency consistent with the revs?

Check if your spark plugs is correct torque.

I once had a problem on mine due to a bad o-ring and the spark plug becomes loose on its own due to engine vibrations, it was making a ticking noise.

Are you saying that this noise happens when stationary? ie has to be engine bay?

Stationary and when moving. Always at the same rev ranges.

heat shields? My Js heat shield vibrated against the brake lines from the ABS pump. Manifold heat shield could be in contact with the main brown heat shield.

Have you kept the car stock? I've often found that it's the aftermarket parts that cause problems, hood struts, heatshields, enigine dampers, intake, etc

Sounds silly but have you had the airbox lid off - loose catch.

Perhaps she needs an oil change Scott?

Or maybe it's the bonnet catch/hinges?
