I still think an old Scorpio or Accord estate on Mud & Snow tyres would do 80% of it for 20% of the money.

Personally, those things stuck up on axles & wobbly tyres make me queasy as a passenger. The high floor & tranny tunnels makes them seem cramped for their size too.

If you drive at them, they normally get back on their own side of the road too!

I had a Mk III Golf some time back that had electrical problems that a dealer was unable to fix

I would be unlikely to ever buy another VW.

Its strange how first impressions last. I had the same with an Orion. I vowed never to own a Ford again.

....and I won`t, as imho, they are ****ing shite. All of em. Except that GT!

Fabulous write up Mr C! but... it's just a poor man's cayenne! (That's an ugly Porsche to those what don't know). And the big P comes with a Big engine to fend of S2K's never mind rover 214's

Cheers for stopping by Stig.

It most certainly is a poor mans Cayenne. Thats why I was in it. Coz, unlike all you big wigs, I`m just a poor boy, from a poor family....

Because I'm easy come,easy go, A little high,little low,
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter ...........

Good write up, but like StevenM I would never have another VW ever, after the steering snapped on my Passat. I proved to VW it was a design fault and they paid up to fix it. Since I had a young family at that time I never had any confidence in the build quality so got rid ASAP.

I have had two Disco's and loved both of them, even though the performance was shi1e. The driving position is great and they are tough mothers. If you go fishing I would have thought a 4x4 would be ideal for a bit of mud plugging.

I agree with you though CC - The S has something that makes you want to take it out to play and look after it like a child. Can't put my finger on it but it's the same as when you own a bike, you might thrash the bo11ox off it but when you get it home you want to wash the flies off so it looks pristine again.

Well, I`m always open to others views (whether I agree with them or not ) and its interesting to hear that my VW experience is not the only way it goes. Snapped steering is not a good situation to be involved in.

Maybe one day, I`ll get a bad apple that will change my perspective. I said it earlier, its funny how you get a feeling from a car early on. My first Ford was awful, so I left that brand. My first VW was great so I stayed with it. A lesson a lot of car manufacturers could learn from.

One thing tho, never had a problem with any Japanese car, apart from our dodgy alloys and a set of lens covers that misted up in an mr2.
