Nice work so far
Just to add my 2p, I suspect the rain sheild will stop some of heat escaping, Would louvres (spelling) in the rain sheid help increase the heat escaping whilst still protecting from rain?
Just an idea that might look good aswell as offering a solution?????

it will stop some but since the highest point is open it finds its way out, i havent checked yet but i think the air running over the bonnet has a venturi effect drawing the air out

Looking to do the same with mine too. Working on the principal my Elise S1 had similar vents over the engine from the factory and I used it in all weathers and it was parked outside, the rain never caused any issues.
I was gonna go with all 3 and just do the one side as you have done.
