Default my oil cap popped off

Noticed the car had been smelling a bit oily for the last couple of days. When I fitted the master cyl brace this eve, I saw why! No oil cap in sight...oil EVERYWHERE.

It fist happened on boxing day last year, pull up, pop the bonnet, find oil cap burried down behind the block.

No idea how / why this happens, but perhaps time to invest in a new oil cap!

Luckily, the level hadn't dropped below the low mark.

Something I did notice, though - the engine warning light hasn't been on since *shrugs*

Have you got the rubber gasket installed between the oil filler cap and the rocker cover? Wonder if it's missing and expansion / contraction in the rocker cover threads are causing it to come loose?

Either that or the oil cap itself is physically deformed due to age and heat and the threads are worn and no longer grip - as you say, probably time for a new one.

I lost one once before. Then when the gearbox was changed, we found it.

I've got a crappy looking Spoon oil cap (not sure why TGM gave me that). It never comes loose; in fact I always need to use a pair of pliers to undo it as I can't by hand.

I have a Mugen one, like Dembo's Spoon, it fits super tight and it's well made too.
