Default My first oil check

Hi, i have been away for the last few days and as soon as i get home i plan on checking the oil in the S, however i have it parked in my driveway which is on a big slope.

If i reverse the car out onto a flat level, how long would i have to wait before i can check the oil (i presume i would have to let the oil reset)

thanks in advance

Depends if you warm the engine first and have warm thin oil.. then I would think only a few mins. cold engine, thick gluupey oil will take longer

Just drive it around the block then park it up on a flat surface, turn the engine off and leave it for 10 mins.

Job done.

Even Cold oil is pretty thin.

Besides, according to manual, checking oil should be done on each fill of the petrol tank - hence the engine would be warm.

IMO - get it on a flat surface, wait a few seconds, check, top up.

Never let it get below the halfway mark on the dipstick

You will overfill if you do it too soon; it does take a while for it to find its way back to the sump.

Agree with Hyper's method.

Although i'd wait a few mins as Nick says, there is a good bit of oil up in the galleries aet which needs to come back. I'd bet 90% of it is in the sump after 20 seconds though.
