Default My 02 S2K vs. 02 Elise 111S

My friend has just bought an 02 Elise 111S so obviously we took the S2K and the Elise out to compare them. I was really impressed with the S2K and I think he was shocked - it just continued to pull (slowly) at high speeds on the motorway from 60mph upwards. I also raced him off the mark and the S2K just pipped him to the post.

Obviously, he's not had his car long so he's probably not used to it, but I was still impressed. I expected the S2K to be better at the top, but to lose off the mark. I'm sure if it was driven properly it may well do so, but at the end of the day, I have a car that's fully loaded with electrics, goes faster at the top end, and is nearly as quick off the mark.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts as I think there are too many posts here that put the S2K down!

Not from any of us

Interesting comparison though - why don't you both do a set of twisties and see how they compare then? I always imagine the Elise must be great on those sorts of roads due to its size and light weight.

What is the actual (not claimed) 0-60 time of the S2K. I'm sure it's well under that. For the Elise it's 5.1s claimed.

Power to weight of the 2002 11S is identical to the S2K, so it would explain (and back up) the comparisons.

Depends what your definition of "off the mark" is. I've done a similar test with a mate's 111S and obviously the less inertia of the Elise means that it will be quicker literally off the mark, but up to 60 my experience was the same as s2kbee (as was the fact that I could pull away as the speed further increased). I think what you have to bear in mind is that the power to weight ratio is so dependent upon the weight of the driver in an Elise!

someone I know says that with full tank of fuel and a passenger the performance of the car is affected significantly

even in the S2000 I can feel the drop in performance with a passenger and a full tank

I've never filled any of my cars up more than 1/4. It feels horrible. Really affects how the car performs under acceleration.
