Mugen S2000 to replace Exige
Dear all
Current Exige owner in Reading doing 20,000 miles a year - Love the lotus but need a little more civility, so
I am about to order an S2000 for March with the following Mugen bits - anyone else in the UK got experience of these components - recommendations - questions regarding my sanity etc etc. I love the car - drove a Boxter S back to back and would prefer a track oriented S2000 for similar money. Just more fun and less people gobbing in it at the lights (thanks to the guys in the transit, you know who you are!)
Scanned a lot of the stuff from the US and am contemplating the Comptech supercharger as well but not sure its really needed.
Free choice of company car - should surprise for the FD!!!

Im sure maca will chime in at some point as he has lots of Mugen stiff on his car. From the list it would appear like the entire Mugen S2000 catalog, in which case I would go and buy a nice 3 bed detached property and a Ford Mondeo for about the same price, j/k. Mugen stuff is not cheap, have you seen the prices? I would imagine your looking at 10-20K for all that gear add that to the 26K for the base car and your almost reaching Noble M12 terriotory.
Are you sure about the S03's though? general opinion is that they are not as good as the S02, particuarly in the dry but may be better in the wet.
Good Luck

Cameron (Maca) is definately your man in the UK for Mugen advice. He also has a crate with space coming from Japan now - check out his thread.
Look forward to the comparisons with your Exige.
Cheers,

Well, you might have an interesting time fitting 18 tires on 17 wheels!
If you're happy spending the cash for that lot then it'll be one nice car.
A couple of comments.
- Mugen do not do brakes as company policy - only ever pads/lines. If you're an experienced track driver you could really hammer the brakes. Most tracked S2000's do fine with uprated pads/lines/fluid. But you might want to consider a full brake kit like the BrakeMan setup for example.
- Won't S03's evaporate if you're having fun?
- Get the Mugen ECU. That alone is a huge improvement - caveat Mugen say to do tun it with a cat, so you'd need a de-cat pipe as well. Ahem, not road legal of course
-Brian.

Nice spot Brian
I am looking at 18s with Michelin Pilot Cups for track use and 17s for road use - the 18s on OZ Superleggeras - hence the confusion!!
Do you have a web site for the brake kit??
I have looked at the ECU but believe I lose OBD and immobilser. If I can get seperate security (I guess I can) then this is worth a look. Honda dealer doesn't seem to impressed with no OBD and warranty maybe a bigger problem than the problem I'm already going to have!!
Whats a Cat - Oh hold on, is it a heavy metal thing that weighs a ton, runs as hot as hell and slows your car down - if it is, someone put one on my exige and it fell off and has since been resting at the back of my garage - I understand it gets rewoken for two hours a year to celebrate its MOT (I guess thats birthday talk for Cats!)
Cheers
Mike

ECU on the list then - what spec you running and have you spent much time on track? Lap times of Donnington/Oulton/Castle Coombe would be interesting - not that you'd have timed any laps but I'm sure you could have a reasonably accurate guess!!!
Whats the ECU tool and where do I get one??

Only done airfields I'm afraid. I'm a track fan, not an expert!
One more thing - Mugen baffled sump. Given the grip from the Cup Sports, you'll probably need it!
It's worth posting in the "Racing and Competiton" forum as well. There's a lot more experience with regular S2000 track use in the US.
