Default MOT advice needed

Right, I've had the car just over a fortnight. So far, so good. I'm very much in love and are still enjoying our "honeymoon" period.

I've been reading through the forum quite a bit, and nothing I've come across so far, really scares me. There doesn't appear much that goes wrong with these..........apart from one topic.........bushes and geo bolts?

I have tried to read through previous threads, so apologies for asking again, but there are so many.

My questions are, can I check on the health of these things without a ramp or axle stands?

Are there any symptoms to look out for, that these are poorly?

How much, roughly to repair/replace if they are funked?

Cheers

The only way to check the bushes is to get under the car, so unless you are thinner than a very thin person that means raising the car on stands etc. Obviously seized bolts will not fail, but check each bush individually for tears, cracks etc. If you can get a helper then he can push and twist things so you can check for play/clonks etc.
All the basic checks tyres/bulbs etc are as straight forward as any other car. Good luck.

Best way to check is get a 4 wheel laser alignment done and ask them to check travel on each adjuster
That way you know what state they are in AND get a geo which massively benefits the handling

The MOT only look for perished or cracked bushes, the geo will only be an issue if the tyres fail.
As a new owner you should get the geo checked as a matter of course.

Would it be an MOT fail on geo bolts?

No.

The best way to test if they are properly knackered is on a lift with the right tools, know how, and a scaffolding pole.
