Default more bad news

on my usual way to work this morning, pull 1/2 way out of a junction and this woman drives straight in the back of me!

paint flaking off the bumper, but luckly visual no damage on the metal work behind it.
she hit me off-center, slap bang in the middle of the tow-eye mount.

she's wanting to pay for the damage herself, i'm ok with this, aslong as she wont 'refund' me.. ie: she pays for the cost directly.
i'm guessing the best way todo this is to get a few quotes, ring her up and say this is the price of it, then get her to scribble me out a cheque/bank transfer of that ammount.
i THEN go take it to a bodyshop for repair.
basically get her money before i get it repaired...

that sound sensible?

It would also be nice not to have to mention an accident (regardless of blame) when it comes to insurance renewal time.

My insurance went up after a non fault claim - not happy!

never sensible imo

she has insurance, not your problem she has to claim

there may be hidden problems, all sorts of things that can surface down the line

I also think you are required to inform your insurance companies

have you got any evidence that she IS insured?

Can end up in a nightmare if she just decides not to pay you.

Retrospectively telling your insurer a few months alter leaves you in queer street.

Agree on a quote an take cash for the full amount.
That's how I would do it if you are set against telling the insurance company. You can't rely on cheques or people to to be straight forward.

Or do I just end up dealing with scammers??!!

She would be silly to do that also - what if you take her money, then report her as driving into you though insurance?
