And so it begins....!

Words from Dan whilst stripping it... It’s in really nice condition. Bores are good, some small marks on the bearings but nothing serious, looks like a very well looked after high mileage engine inside. I’ve stripped many far far worse. That’s it for a week or so while everything is off getting cleaned, shot blasted and then aqua blasted - it’ll look better than new then though!

Very interesting, thanks for sharing your story!

I’ve recently started literally something very similar to your build with Ian and Tom from TGM.

Have you bought the toda stoker kit in the end?

Nah, just the 2.2 with the OEM crank.

Genuinely not sure how much difference the internals will make. Biggest sound differences are usually intake and exhaust. I'll be on the same intake and exhaust setup as before the build, so it'll be an interesting comparison. I might eventually go with ITBs and a scavenging midpipe. But for now, it'll just be the engine.

Default New vs old Injector test

Well that was an interesting test result....

After testing my 102k miles old injectors and finding them a little variable across the 4, I ordered a set of new ones from Amayama (soooo much cheaper than UK!).

Results...
Old injectors, 1st test (a few wks ago) - 383-404cc
2nd test (same time as the new injectors) - 390-410cc (although he seemed to round to the nearest 5 this time round).

New injectors - all 4 360cc (again, rounded results but he mentioned there was a 1-2psi max difference).

So, they do wear out, but at least they wear out in the right direction, by overfuelling (rather than underfuelling and risking running lean).

I'm no expert, but I suspect the overfuelling isn't a problem, especially given that I've got an ECU that'll be tuned to put the right amount of fuel in for the old injectors. More important is the variance across them, and what we don't know is if the spray pattern has changed.

So, I'll be using the new set, for sure! That said, the old ones are fine and will do the job for a normal engine. I just want a more consistent set so I know I can tune it with confidence.

The other thing you can do is put a higher flowing injector into a cylinder that gets more air/runs leaner. I’m not sure when the stock intake manifold starts to run into air distribution issues on the F20C but it is a thing on other cars.

Are you going to use an adjustable FPR?
Just thinking those 360cc ones should be close to be max duty cycle if you make some decent power figures.
