I for one had to change from Castrol Edge, as I was using so much of it. Then it is a 99 motor.
Me too. The couple of times I've had Castol Edge it hasn't lasted as well as Mobil 1. I have it now in fact, in my 05 engine, and it still uses some.

My 00 used 0w/40 so fast I thought I'd not put the sump plug back in...

Apparently the later models don't use so much but I won't be trying it again.

Ok, so I washed the S at the weekend and checked the oil. Sitting about half way, looking a bit on the grubby side. Decided to get some fresh stuff in and to go fully synthetic. So it's booked in on sat morning for a full change. The garage use Mobil 1 0W40.

I've spent the last few days looking through the old posts and seems mixed views on M1 0W40. Some say it's too thin and some say they've had no problems with it.

Is M1 0W40 a good quality oil for the the S?

Thanks for any advice guys.... I know this has been asked a million times before. Sorry.
This whole thread is almost as confusing as it is helpful

On purchasing my S2000 which is the 03 model (last of the true S2000) I spent a lot of time investigating Honda's view with regards to S2000 oil.

Overall opinion and used by ROWES HONDA is Castrol Edge 0-30W???Which I have successfully stayed with.

The 0-30W rating is as I am certain we all the know ,the max and min viscosity that the oil should experience.

So far my annual oil usage is low (rarely VTEC),obviously wear to engine unknown.....bt if we cannot trust Honda themselves then who do you trust???.I am of course talking of those owners who like me use there cars under normal conditions and as a daily use vehicle, and are not VTEC addicts.

Amsoil SSO 0w30 or RedLine 10w30. NOTHING comes close. Both are correct grade.

It is....

Would Mobil 1 0W40 cause any long term damage if used in the S?

Ok, how about if I stay with Mobil 1 but go with 5W-30?

Mobil link

It's the numbers 5W40 that the S is supposed to use.
I don't think Mobil do 5W40? I could only find 5W30 on their web site.

Threads relating to engine oil are a killer! They always go round and round in circles!

For the record, I asked the same question from the supplying garage (Fish Bros, Swindon), and where subsequent services have taken place (Brayley Honda, Hatfield), and they both unhesitatingly said, "5W40 fully synthetic".

I have stuck with that grade, and the consumption is modest in relation to the way the engine is used!
