Default Mobil 1 0w40 confused.com

Ok, so I washed the S at the weekend and checked the oil. Sitting about half way, looking a bit on the grubby side. Decided to get some fresh stuff in and to go fully synthetic. So it's booked in on sat morning for a full change. The garage use Mobil 1 0W40.

I've spent the last few days looking through the old posts and seems mixed views on M1 0W40. Some say it's too thin and some say they've had no problems with it.

Is M1 0W40 a good quality oil for the the S?

Thanks for any advice guys.... I know this has been asked a million times before. Sorry.

Why not use the correct grade of oil?

If the garage cannot get hold of the correct oil - do you really trust them with working on your car?

I don't understand this.

It's Mobil, not Mobile

0W oils have generally been used in very very cold climates, to give good cold starting flow.

I'd sooner see a 5W oil used on the S though, but actually wouldn't worry about using what you have. I think the Civic Type R uses 0w40 from memory.

The second number (40) is what I always used on the S and had no bother.

If it is using loads of oil, then try a different brand. A lot of people claim to have had good results with Castrol Edge.

Reading the OP's post - he hasn't bought any oil.
The garage is providing it.

So I would be asking the garage to use 5W40

Or I would be providing my own

Ahhh good old oil questions

Our resident oil expert Si said he personally runs C.E 5w30 as its a good all round oil for the year.

I have done the same for the last 2 years with no problems.

I've always used it. When the engine blew up it was all still there, right up to the top of the dipstick.

Mobile…… Miss type, before coffee.

So should I stay away from Mobil then?

I did ask the garage if I could supply my own oil, but they only use their own supply (Mobil 1). I was looking at getting Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 as a lot of owners on here seem to use it.

I just want to make sure I give the S the best.

I for one had to change from Castrol Edge, as I was using so much of it. Then it is a 99 motor.
No problems with 10/40oil

Garage supplied oil is very pricey.
You could easily pay £70-80 for this.

The mark up is huge Which is why they are keen for you to buy the oil from them.

Mobil oil is fine.

It's the numbers 5W40 that the S is supposed to use.
(As mentioned other on here use 10W40 etc )

If the garage can't provide Mobil 5W40 - I would find another garage
