Yup hence me asking is there any oil on the coilpack

The loose sparkplug could be the problem, so hopefully thats it. Its something I'm scared of a spark plug coming lose because some people on here have blown the engine/damaged it because of it coming loose, IIRC puppy was one poor bugger spark plug shattered and coilpack then bits scored inside

Clean up that coilpack, i used some carb cleaner but be careful with the seal right at the bottom.

If it is the sparkplug see what i mean about it not being 100% accurate in diagnosing exactly which cylinder it is.

3. Sparkplugs - what condition are they in?
...loose.

DOH.

I know I should have checked sooner.

Feels crisper (but then I adjusted the throttle cable at the same time).

Anyway, lets see how she behaves tomorrow on the commute. Fingers crossed and thank you for all of your help everyone.

I posted a thread a while back about checking spark plugs - seemed to be a spate of it.

Yup have a look at the spark plug seals too. They are on the cover and match up with the top of the plug wells.

Glad you caught it in time!

Well, early indications are good.

Smoother running and tickover and no sign of CEL this morning.

Will keep monitoring.

If it's happened to others and the consequences are so extreme, is it worth sticking a line in FAQ's for a check of torque settings on plugs?

Thanks again chaps, I can't tell you how much happier I am now.
