Are these really any better than stock? if so why?, not clued up on brake pads at all.

No idea - but I got them from brakeparts international (on here) and they were a darn site cheaper then standard

I feel they are much better than standard, loads of bite even from cold, getting tired of hitting the front screen with my nose though. These didn't have sticky on the back of the pads.?
May try a thicker type of copperslip than the spray on stuff.

Never use spray on stuff near brakepads! how can you be sure it wont get near the brake surface? use a tin of copper grease and apply with your trusty Mk1 finger!

Or just use a squirty tube if you're feeling frugal.

Copper grease should go between the shims and between the shims and the pad. If you've only got it between the shims and the caliper, that might well be the cause of your squeal.
