Default Minor Irritation Revs Dropping

Just recently whenever I pull up at a junction or in traffic when I depress the clutch the revs drop down to approx 500, the engine labours, and then rises back to idle speed.

Does anyone know what would cause this ?

Apart from this the car drives and performs as perfectly as could be expected with me at the wheel, but this is really starting to irritate me.

Any help would be welcome.

Andy

It's quite a common problem. I think it's because the S has quite a small fly-wheel and so the rev's drop when the engine's warm and you come to a standstill...

I haven't been able to do anything about it so I've just lived with it...

Mine had this and it went after an ECU reset. The reset was to clear the engine management light.

May be co-incidence I don't know

Mine did this, it was the Air con clutch stalling

1 shorter belt later and problem gone.

Its not the flywheel IMO - it would always do it if that were the case. There are lots of cars with lightened flywheels as standard and the engine management should be designed to stop it.

Its either:

Throttle cable loose
MAP sensor going pop
Blocked air filter
Throttle air lines blocked up
Lambda sensor dead

I would try the ECU reset and see how you get on.

Simon - did they reset the ECU when they did the AC belt? Would have thought that was only a problem if the AC was running?

Ok, went out to the car - second fuse third slot - reset ECU

I let the car idle for 5-10 mins and then took it for a good spanking down the dual carrigeway

Problem solved

Thanks all

Drove to work this morning no problems revs remained constant all ok.

You've got me thinking now though, I've got an AEM intake and its been on for about 6 months maybe time for a filter clean !!
