Neil, whether you notice it or not, a timing chain problem will still kill your engine. It wasn't a case of them not hearing the noise - they acknowledged it. It was a case of them not wanting to fix it - if I was cynical, I'd say it's because it probably wouldn't have killed my engine before the end of my warranty (September).
If you don't spot diff bearings on the way out, you could well end up with a dead pinion and ring gear, or worse... certainly a bigger bill. Just two examples. Clutches, I've not worn one out - they've been replaced for problems, aside from the last replacement which I paid for as the gearbox was being changed under warranty.... so it was a good opportunity rather than a must do.
I do drive with enthusiasm... when appropriate. I don't drive hard when everything's cold. I don't think I'd be out of line in thinking that I care for my S2000 better than the average S2000 owner. There's been one failure due to premature wear - the diff bearings. I paid for that lot. (the Honda parts bill for my recent 55k 'refresh' came to over

If I was buying an S2000 second-hand now, I wouldn't be put off by a higher milage car, but I would check some areas very, , very carefully.

If you are able to say without dropping yourself in it, what are these key areas you'd be checking carefully, and what tests can be applied in the usual tyre kicking that goes with looking at a used car??

Bought mine (MY99) on 37k and done nearly 9k in four months. Clutch replaced under extended warrantee due to usual noise problems and currently have the rear poppoing noise which WILL be fixed at service (warrantee again). Most surprising thing after reading the threads is that it has hardly burnt any oil (750ml). Mainly motorway driving. Is this something to worry about ?
After owning an Carerra 3.2 its a god send knowing that I have a comprehensive warrantee and cheap (relative) running costs. As long as its looked after can't see why the mileage you are talking about would be a problem, but thats the same for MOST modern cars. As mentioned before, good idea to buy from someone that understands performance cars and isnt used to driving an accord with no servicing for three years (my mates dad never even changed the oil -

Don't be scared of high milers. Sold my first S2000 (2000/y) with 50,000 ish on it last year to a chap who has since taken it over 100k with no problems, and is still on first clutch. The money you will save in depreciation will be far more than looking after a high miler will cost. Just make sure it has FHSH and hasn't been bent.
