PJD - forget practical reasons?
I have 2 cars because the S2k was an emotional buy - but I needed a practical (but not a "sensible" car. Decent beaters can be picked up for a song these days.
I insure on a multi-car policy with Admiral and do about 8k a year in each. The premium for both is lower than I was paying for the S2k alone. I obviously cannot be in both cars at the same time - and the beater is a lower risk.
As far as high miles are concerned go to http://www.webuyanycar.com/
and put in details of a 2002 S2K with 25K miles; with 50k miles and with 100k miles and see what you get.
OK - I did it and it came up with
