No new wires from the HU to the crossover.

You use the existing wire that runs to the woofer, and extend that to connect to the crossover.

The crossover then "splits" the signal (1 in and 2 out) and you run new wires from the crossover to the woofer and the tweeter.

Mark, no need to 'hack' the OEM Honda plugs off; you can buy adaptor leads

I have a spare patch lead which runs from the OEM loom to the back of an Alpine HU

I meant OEM Honda speaker plug to aftermarket speakers.

IIRC it's an Autoleads PC2-818.

You shouldn't need the adapters with those speakers, should be able to bolt straight in. My older pair did.

MB, cutting the bonnet??? How did you get on with the manifold?

Ok ta. I thought the spacers might make a more solid mount, but we shall see!

Manifold went fine, completed it a few days ago.

I'm now onto the J's intake.
