recently had a failed map sensor - long story short when i first bought the car i replaced the map sensor. 1.5-2yrs later the replacement (Denso brand) has gone pop, so im now back on the map sensor that i had when i bought the car.
1.5-2yrs seems way too short a lifespan, yet we all know the S does suffer from map sensor issues.
how long has your map sensor lasted (original or replacement). have i just been unlucky and bought a weak one?

They are shite imo. Most cars use them with no issue, so it's either the extreme heat (and the S does get incredibly hot) or contamination from excessive oil carryover from the breather system.
Either way, they don't last.
A bit like MAF sensors on the MY99-00 impreza. And lambda sensors.

i know the dreaded impreza maf sensor... mine imploded one night about a mile from the house, luckily my knocklink went mental so i nursed i home and switched in a new one.

my map sensor failure felt like fuel starvation (or heatsoak)
as FAQ says, only in VTEC, and mine was evident between 7-8k, and not even a flicker of CEL.
im going with MB - heat and oil combination causing life-span issues. surely thats no different than most other cars now, where engines are shoe-horned in, and lots are now turbo.

Cut some holes in your bonnet like the yanks do, that'll lower engine bay temps and hopefully extend the MAP sensor's lifespan.
If it's oil related, perhaps a catch can will help?

Catch can is a good idea, but you have to weigh up the cost.
Under bonnet temps aren't the only issue - the block gets so unbelievably hot, and this transfers back to the throttle body where the MAP lives.
The S just seems particularly bad for it.
