Default M5 Speed Cameras between Jcns 19 and 20

Going down to Somerset on Monday I noticed that they are planning major roadworks between the Gordano Services (19) and Clevedon (20) junctions. They have erected at least 5 cameras, 4 of which were still covered in bubble wrap, so thwy don't appear to be operational yet.

Locations going Southbound are:

1. downslope of the Avonmouth bridge - central reservation (just before the slip road to the Gordano services)

2. About a mile and a bit further on just over the top of the long hill - central reservation - It's possible that this is aimed at Northbound traffic

3. About 800 yards further on - central reservation again - and definitely targetting Southbound traffic

4. About a mile further on just off the hard shoulder - definitely targetting Southbound traffic

5. Immediately after the Clevedon exit - central reservation - most probably targetting Southbound traffic.

Be warned if you see camera signs and a 50 or whatever limit in force.

They seem to be temporary ones whilst some big roadworks are carried out.

They'll all be set at exactly 50mph then...to help fund the digging

For future reference, this is Naish Hill

I grew up in Portishead, and have cycled uphill over the bridge that runs at right angles to the motorway at the top of the hill many a time!

Tonight coming through that section it was down to 40 mph but at the moment the cameras are still wrpped up. They looked like they were installing another one to go with the collection as I passed through. I have to travel that section every day - I wonder how long it will be before I get a ticket for doing 44 mph!!!! This is due to be in place until June 06

Be careful guys and girls

I totally agree in reduced limits when the guys are working on the road. I will ensure that I do the limit unitl the NSL sign. might add 5 minutes to my journey time but thats just fine with me

TBH if it adds 2 minutes to your time I'd be surprised, so stay at the 50 or 40 or whatever whilst the road works are in place.

Yep, it will be 40mph on both sides of the hill. They're putting an extra lane in for the slower vehicles as this is always a bottle-neck, especially in the summer months. I believe it will be the longest contraflow in the UK & will be there 'til next June.

I'll get me coat.
