Default M4 speed cameras

You know, the ones that are supposed to clock your speed over a distance.
I drove the M4 a couple of weeks ago and couldn't see them anywhere from jctn, it was a right pain having to go so slow when the traffic was so clear as I didn't want to risk points.

The Wiltshire section between J14 and J18 I think...... and they use mobile laser vans.

However even the rozzers seem confused as a speed van cop I was talking to the other day thought the M4 section in question used average speed using "cameras in the overhead gantry information signs"...... i.e complete rubbish as far as I can tell!

Dunno about over distance but there are certainly Gatsos between Heston and Ealing at the London end, and all around Newport/Cardiff at the other. The former have been there at least ten years - I've been wondering where this outrage at using cameras on motorways has come from lately.

In between seems to be (mercifully) clear though.

On the Swindon-Bristol run the are all vans parked on bridges, with the occasional Fuzz on the side (hiding behind gantry signs in a Omega )

The gantry signs HAVE cameras, but not speed ones .. they have one to check the sign itself and one to check traffic.

The recent outrage is the zero tolerance policy by Wiltshire police in their section of the M4....... anyone caught doing more than 70mph will be done!

Maybe you shouldn't be breaking the speed limit?

I appreciate the speed limits are utter @rse but shouldn't we direct our outrage at the limits, not at the coppers doing their jobs by enforcing them?

But that's 4 perfectly good gears gone to waste

Actually I prefer it if there are coppers about rather than cameras, just as long as they're of a mind to take off after idiots. Just sitting in a van zapping speeders for later prosecution is no better than a Gatso - worse in fact as it's using up a valuable 'body' which could far better serve the public by patrolling the motorway itself.

I prefer static cameras, so much easier to get through. Coppers and their unmarked cars and hidden mobile cameras are just wrong.
