yes, I start the engine and after abotu 2 secs the light goes out. It doesn't come on when i'm driving.

This morning when I turned the engine on the light was on for abour 1 sec, flashed off and back on again for 1 sec, then went out again. Now I know that shouldn't happen
No way would I drive the car without getting it checked out!

2nd hand engines are very expensive

in the service manual there is atroubleshouting procedure for that:
1. check oil level
2. test oil pressure sender
3. check oil pressure (external pressure gauge is used)
4. check oild filter for clogging
5. check oil screen for cloggins (what the hell is that???)
6. check the relief valve
8. check the oil pump (they mean disamble it from the engine)

If the light came on when I was driving I obviously wouldn't.

Castrol longtec (or whatever it is that replaced slx) is in there at the moment

Can someone watch their light when they start it to go home tonight?

I think if I haven't started the car fro a while (a week or two) then it may take around 1s for the oil light to go out. Regular use sees the light go out instantly in my experience.

the oil is approx 3/4 full and the majority is about 11 months old (with small top ups of various ages).

Don't know about condition of oil filter but it is due a service at the end of next month

I've booked it into Honda on Tuesday to plug it in to OBD but can people please see if your cars do this. I need to see if I should be driving it over the weekend or not.

Physically check the oil pressure as you start it
Only way to really tell if you have a low oil pressure

Then start the problem solving.
One of mine did this until I changed to a better oil

it may well be the oil pump; which is a cheap fix compared to a new engine.
