Default Low oil

Hi guys - checked my oil tody after numerous posts about oil changes etc. and found the oil level to be low. The car was serviced about 3K miles ago and was told by the dealer at the time that that have placed a 1ltr bottle in the boot. Checked today but no bottle!

On the invoice it says castrol performance 10W-40W anybody here knows what oil this could be? as castrol perfromance does not exist and I do not want to cross contaminate!!

Cheers

Doesnt really matter IMO if you're topping up. Just get some Magnatec of the same grade and top up. Mixing of oils isnt that much of an issue IMO - unless its wildly different.

I personally always supply the dealer my own oil as I dont like using semi synthetic.... Maybe worth a thought for next time - its cheaper too!

Castrol Magnetec is 10W40 I'd probably just put that in.

You should check your oil every 250 miles or so. Read the faq for details

PS - with regard to mixing, I speak to Castrol technical a fair bit and they aren't concerned about mixing car engine oils as they are generally comaptible.

Just dont try it on a gas turbine.....

performance.. could be the edge stuff. Thats what my dealer is using at mo. quite pricey. If I was you i would just phone dealer and ask them speciically what they used. no point mixing if the answer is only a phone call away

particularly on the older cars the oil consumption can be quite high if you are VTECing quite a bit..

also not to open the boot in 3000miles

I have a 99' model and my oil drops down very fast? Is it anything to do with VTEC?

How much over how many miles? Not really VTEC system related as such, just an indication of how much is being either burned or passing the seals and being ingested back into the engine.
