Default Lost the Fuel Lottery

I was caught out by the fuel gauge this morning!. I’m gutted… walking 4 miles down the road with a jerry can is not the best way to start your day.
I couldn’t believe it, I have never trusted the reading on the dash so I reset the miles every time I fill up. Normally I can get in the region of 250 and 270 miles between fill ups.Imagine my surprise when today my car coughs and splutters twice and then stops with only 137 miles on the clock. I know I have been enjoying the fact the roads are no longer wet and icy but 137 miles from £66 notes worth of go go juice is crazy.
On a brighter note as I was walking the return 4 mile hike back to my car an absolute legend of a man in his 335 pulls over and offers me a lift . I can honestly say I have a new found respect for BMW drivers and the 335 is a beast of a car.
I know running out of fuel is not the best thing for my car but could anyone let me know If any damage will be caused form this Faux pas.

Cheers

Paul

At least you didn't have to shell out for yet another jerry can - I've got five in the garage.....

Surely something amiss with your car - I can get 320 miles out of a tank - Just general commuting though, not leathering it.

I lost the fuel light lottery a couple of weeks ago.
Managed to get within a mile of the garage.

Did push the fuel light to 28 miles before it conked out.

Primary lamda will do that without necicerily throwing a CEL. Keep an eye on the next tank full.

That sounds a lot like me

I've yet to run out in the S but been bloody close! I've also only managed about 200 miles out of the last 2 tanks...but I think thats something to do with the new exhaust!
